Education Summary
Self Taught:
I have found that learning under my own guidance allows me to efficiently gain new skills as needed for me to accomplish a given task. Since my learning skills are highly tuned, I can quickly learn whatever skills you require. I have learned each of the following skills with no formal guidance:
HTML
I have been using HTML since June 1999. I have learned my HTML by consulting a few reference manuals, and the many online tutorials. You can see my HTML skills in use throughout my resume, and in my portfolio.
CSS
CSS is an integral part of designing for the web, and I've been using CSS for nearly as long as I've been using HTML. My most advanced CSS examples are on this very resume web site. Feel free to view the page's source code and the CSS.
JavaScript
I began learning JavaScript in January 2001 to add some enhancements to my web page. Since then, I have completed the assignments in HTML Goodies Second Edition, one of the finest JavaScript texts around. In addition to design enhancement, I have completed several advanced scripts that you can view in my portfolio.
PHP
The server side scripting language that I am most familiar with is PHP. I use it here on my resume and for many of my client sites. I have deliberately coded this site to use universal site-wide header and footer files, with a variable to change the title and id of each different page. On a client site, I used PHP for server side input character stripping for security, GET and POST form submissions and PHPmail to send those forms as emails.
Photoshop
Adobe publishes the Classroom in a Book series for customers and even uses them to train its own support staff. I have completed working through the Photoshop Classroom in a Book, and have been using Photoshop since 2001 to create appealing and effective images. I have published samples in my portfolio.
